These proteins act as a sort of "mule" or "bucket brigade" where one end of the protein is attached to the microtubule and the other is attached to a vesicle. It has not been established exactly how these proteins move along the tubule. Evidence suggests that each protein essentially "walks" along the tubule while others note that there are several proteins that "pass the bucket" or vesicle toward one way or another.
